Early Morning Fire Leaves 9 Homeless
Just before 6:00 am fire broke out in a triple decker on Harvard Avenue in Dorcester. The fire broke out on the second floor of the wooden building and quickly spread to the third floor. First arriving fire fighters quickly called for extra help, summonsing a second and third alarm response to the scene. Fire grew to be so intense that all of the fire fighters were forced to retreat from inside the building and fight the blaze with large hoses and ladders from outside. A minivan that had been parked in front of the building caught fire from the intense flames, it was also destroyed. Hours later fire investigators have determined that the fire started on the porch of the second floor, however the cause has not been identified yet.
All told four adults and five children have been left homeless after the fire. The building is believed to be a total loss. One resident, a child, was transported to the hospital for burns he suffered in the building. Five fire fighters were transported to area hospitals for various reasons ranging from lacerations to chest pains. None of the injuries appear to be life threatening.
First Murder of 2012 Strike Boston
The first murder in 2012 for the City of Boston occurred just before 2pm on Saturday January 14. The fatal shooting took place on Tull Street in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood, and left one dead. A Lynn, Massachusetts man identified as 20 year old Christopher Pichardo was left fatally wounded and transported to the Boston Medical Center by BEMS. Shortly after arriving at BMC, Pichardo was prounced dead.
Boston PD detectives are working with witnesses to identify a suspect. At this time, no arrests have been made in the killing.
Two Teens Shot on Geneva St
Just after 3:00 pm on Sunday September 25 two teenage males were shot, leaving one seriously injured and the other dead. The shooting happened in broad daylight on a busy Dorchester street, and police are still searching for the shooter. Information released by Boston PD today indicated that a 16 year old male was transported to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead and a 14 year old was also transported to BMC with life threatening injuries. Multiple police units responded to the scene, along with detectives and the crime scene unit. Witnesses were able to provide a description of the shooter to police, however they were unable to locate them at this time.
