Holiday Weekend Busy for Police

The hot long holiday weekend ended up being busy for the Boston Police, and our feed caught all of it. All totalled there were 9 shooting incidents leaving 4 dead and 9 wounded. Added to the shootings there were 3 stabbings leaving 5 injured.

In response to the violence from the weekend, Boston mayor Tom Menino and top BPD brass are meeting to “examine” the issue.

Related to the busy weekend, our feed saw a high of almost 50 listeners.

For more information about the above incident, check out www.bpdnews.com, BPD’s official news site.

Site updates, posting, and hardware on the way!

So first off I have received the tracking code for the last piece of hardware needed to get this feed online. Unless FedEx messes things up (which in all honesty is very possible, I’ve never had a good experience with them) it should arrive in time to be put in place this weekend. That being said, there should be lots of private testing next week, followed by public testing. Once it is all working correctly, the feed will be published for everyone hopefully in a week. No promises though, things happen and I also work a full time job and then some.

That being said, the feed in its current condition will not be able to provide text tags. The radio being used (Pro-2051) does not support it, which is really unfortunate. Although you can get by without them, knowing what channel a unit is on is very helpful in understanding their location. That being said, I would like to purchase a BCT-15X to use with the feed. If you would like to help out (and I would greatly appreciate it) visit the “Donate” page I’ve set up and you can send some money through PayPal.

I’ve also added a Contact page to the site today and opened up user comments. Feel free to join in. There also seems to be a problem with images, I’m working on fixing it so if the site acts wonky or you get a holding page that’s why. Don’t worry, I’ll figure it out.
