9/25/11 – Geneva Ave Double Shooting
Just after 3:00 pm on Sunday September 25 two teenage males were shot, leaving one seriously injured and the other dead. The shooting happened in broad daylight on a busy Dorchester street, and police are still searching for the shooter. Information released by Boston PD indicated that a 16 year old male was transported to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead and a 14 year old was also transported to BMC with life threatening injuries. Multiple police units responded to the scene, along with detectives and the crime scene unit. Witnesses were able to provide a description of the shooter to police, however they were unable to locate anyone at the time.
The audio starts off with the dispatcher informing the “11 side” (The C11 District responsible for Dorchester) of a Shot Spotter activation on Geneva Ave. Shortly after BPD started receiving calls about a person shot, and then calls reporting two men shot. Units from across the district responded, assisted the victims until BEMS arrived, secured the scene, and started to search for the shooter(s).

In response to the shooting, as well as multiple other gun related events that have occurred in the neighborhood, Boston PD has announced a list of efforts to combat the violence. Increased uniformed and nonuniform patrols, surveillance cameras, informational signboards, and increased community involvement are planned to try and help with the gun and gang related violence.
